Printervention is a traveling exhibition and public art project inspired by The Works Progress Administration, a cultural program created through Franklin Delano Roosevelt's New Deal in the 1930s. FDR initiated the New Deal and with it came support for the arts and a new philosophy of social service. Printervention underscores the necessity for public support of artists and raises awareness of the social and political issuesof our day.
Organized by Emily Clayton, Chris Roberson and Ed Marszewski, Printervention debuted in Chicago in the Spring of 2010 as part of Version Festival, an annual arts festival in Chicago. The inaugural exhibition featured over 70 posters and prints, a mobile silkscreen cart, an outdoor mural by Montreal duo Seripop, a window installation at The Whistler, as well as workshops, demonstrations and collaborations at the ChicagoTourism Center Gallery.
Following the inaugural exhibition, Printernvention traveled to Detroit, Michigan as part of the US Social Forum and Nashville, Tennessee for an exhibition at the gallery Open Lot.
